North Woodside Pool
Date - 2012
Scope of Works - North Woodside Baths in Glasgow were built in the 19th Century and had been lying empty for several years due to excessive escape of water from the pool.
-
Glasgow City Council employed Waterproofing Ltd to carry out a survey to establish the structural condition of the pool and reasons for water loss.
-
The pool was of a peculiar construction with rounded stops with columns at the shallow end and three circular recesses at the deep end.
-
A series of cores were then taken.
-
All tiles and renders were removed back to base concrete.
-
A pattern of cracking was found in the walls.
-
There was no watertight seal at pool outlets.
-
The perimeter screed had formed the upper 75mm of wall creating a crack and line of egress.
-
There were score cracks in the floor slab.
-
The pool surround was cut back and reformed with a waterproof concrete.
-
All exposed cracks and joints were sealed using an epoxy bonded, flexible hypalon bandage.
-
The existing walls were re-aligned and waterproofed with a minimum 3 coat, 20mm, epoxy bonded waterproof wall render.
-
New renders were recessed around outlets.
-
A controlled water outlet system was positioned at the deep end of the pool.
-
Once renders were suitably cured, 2 lines of hydrophilic strips were applied either side of the epoxy secured starter bars fixed through our renders.
-
Glasgow City engineers wanted to reduce the depth of the pool plus then felt an increased screed depth was required.
-
Reinforcement was installed in hit or miss panels
-
A waterproof concrete base was applied in hit and miss rails to allow the application of a hydrophilic strip to be fixed between panels should shrinkage occur.
-
Box outs were formed in the new concrete to create access points and sealed again with hydrophilic strips.
-
Pool outlets were sealed with hydrophilic mastics, replaced and built into the 3 coat waterproofing system.
-
The pool was water tested successfully and then fully tiled and commissioned for use.
