Concrete Repairs to
Structurally Damage Concrete Column
Date - November 2018
Summary - Renovation works at a property in Edinburgh exposed a seriously damaged structural concrete column that supported the main roof beam. Although internally located, previous defects with the roof resulted in water ingress that subsequently resulted in rusting of the steel and spalling of the concrete.
Prior to removal of the concrete, we supported the main beam with Props. The concrete was then removed back to solid utilising hand held breakers, the steel was cleaned and primed with a zinc primer, the column was shuttered utilising existing, remaining lines for a guide and then poured with a pre-bagged micro concrete back to original dimensions.
The heat in the area resulted in some very minor surface cracking when the shutter was stripped. This was dealt with utilising fairing coat products to infill.
